MP expresses concern over greenhouse gas emissions in India
Panaji, Sep 6 (UNI) Former Civil Aviation Minister and MP Shripad Y Naik today pleaded for intensifying measures to check emission of greenhouse gases to avert environment disaster looming large in India with rapid rise in use of automobiles over the years.
Addressing the three-day conference on environment management under the aegis of the Delhi-based Greentech Foundation after presenting environment excellence awards to 56 recepients, Mr Naik called for individual contribution to more efficient energy use for immediate results.
Though per capita emission of carbon dioxide a year in India was one tonne, as against nine tonnes in Europe and 20 tonnes in the US, the country should not lag behind in reducing the global warming by all means, he added.
Various public and private sector enterprises in different sectors like cement, petroleum, engineering, construction, hospoitality, chemicals and fertilisers were among the recepients of the awards.
Goa-based Sesa Goa, a reputed iron ore miner and exporter, bagged the silver award for environemt excellence.
