Kanpur, Sep 6: The police here today arrested a woman her son for running a theft gang and seized jewellary and cash worth several lakhs from them.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Singh, a robbery took place at trader Sanjay Kalara resident in Govind Nagar in which cash and jewellary worth rupees 10 lakh were stolen.
After receiving the complaint, the Govind Nagar police arrested Gopal Gupta and recovered a Indianmade pistol, eight live cartridges from his possession.
During interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the theft and spilled the beans about his recently formed gang.
On his instance, the police raided his second house at Swroop Nagar and arrested his mother Vimla Devi and seized big cash and jewellery worth several lakh of ruppees from her.
Gupta further revealed about the four other gang members.
This was a new gang, who had also robbed a doctor's residence in Nawab Ganj area, in which cash and jewellary worth rupees five lakh were looted, the SSP said adding the gang had committed theft and loot at many other places also.
He announced a cash reward of Rs 2,500 to the police team.
