Shillong, Sep 6 (UNI) State's Higher and Technical Education minister Manas Chaudhry has said that the government is committed to convert the state into an education hub in the entire Northeast.
He also urged the teaching community to come foreward with their dedication to achieve this goal.
Referring to Meghalaya's low literacy rate only next to Bihar and Arunachal pradesh, Mr chaudhury said several steps had been taken to improve it from the present 62 percent to 72 percent in the next five years.
''One model school under each block and four polytechnics would be set up in the state to uplift the education system'' he added.
The MPA government would improve basic amenities in the schools specially in rural areas, the minister stated.
