Hyderabad, Sep 6 (UNI) Lok Satta President Jayaprakash Narayan today blamed the legislators for undermining the prestige of the legislature in the eyes of the public by ''resorting to invectives and abuse instead of working together to hammer out solutions to burning problems faced by the state''.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the legislature was expected to fiercely protect public interest, legislate on its behalf, hold the Government accountable and set an example to society in general.
Citing several instances in which the legislature failed to come to grips with problems, he claimed the legislature failed to provide practical solutions to farmers hit by fertiliser scarcity and no attempt was made to harmonise the conflicting interest on land allocation to SEZs.
''The need of the hour is to transform our political culture and bring probity and nobility to public life,'' he added.
