Srinagar, Sep 6 (UNI) Alleging that the J&K government had failed to provide any relief to Gujjars whose houses and other property was damaged during the recent agitation in Jammu region, the Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front (GUF) said hundreds, including women and children, of the community are living in the open without any shelter.

In a statement here today, president of the GUF Mohammad Anwar Choudhary alleged that the Divisional Administration of Jammu has totally failed in providing any relief to Gujjars who were uprooted during the recent agitation at Jammu, Kathua and Samba district.

They are still in a pathetic condition and State government is deliberately sleeping over the issue.

He said about one hundred families of Gujjars in Jammu and adjoining districts, whose hamlet have been damaged, are shelterless in many areas of Jammu.

He once again appealed to Governor N N Vohra to intervene in the matter and provide temporary shelters and adequate compensations to Nomadic Gujjar tribes whose livestock has been missing or perished.

Mr Anwar said this is an awful example of lawlessness and failure of Government missionary in Jammu province that no FIR has been registered by the Police in any area of Jammu Samba and Kathua where the Gujjar properties were torched and livestock was perished.

''How can we claim our damage when police have deliberately not logged any FIR of the incident? asked Anwar.

Mr Anwar said they will march towards New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patel and apprise them about the plight of Gujjars in the state.
