Chennai, Sep 6 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa would announce special schemes for the benefit of members of the party's youth brigades of both men and women at Theni on September 15, kicking off the centenary celebrations of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
This is for the first time that Ms Jayalalithaa would come into direct contact with the members of youth brigades, constituted by the party, after its General Council, held in February, adopted a resolution to this effect.
The AIADMK had floated the brigades to woo the youths after reports suggested that they were being attracted towards parties launched by film stars Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar.
The party has decided to come out with special schemes like setting up of computer centres, offering courses in computer, tailoring, yoga, driving and library maintenance for the benefit of young brigades throughout the state.
To begin with, Ms Jayalalithaa would launch the special schemes at a function to be held at her home constituency, Andipatti, in Theni district of the state on September 15, a party release here said.
Ms Jayalalithaa would address a public meeting on September 14, on the eve of Annadurai's birth anniversary in Theni. In the centenary function at Andipatti, she would pay floral tributes to the late leader and her late mentor Chief Minister M G Ramachandran.
As decided by the General Council in February, the AIADMK would celebrate the birth centenary throughout the state and the neighbouring states of Puducherry Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and New Delhi, where the party had units, it said.
The celebrations would last throughout the year, during which, various competitions would be organised for students and various new schemes would be launched on behalf of the party.
