Geet Sethi overcomes debacle, trounces Murray

Bangalore, Sept 6 (UNI) Legendary cueist Geet Sethi overcame the shock defeat at the hands of Pankaj Advani and proved his supremacy by defeating Aidan Murray of Ireland 1939-167 in the league match of the ONGC IBSF World Billiards Championship (Time Format) played at the Karnataka State Billiards Association Hall here today.

Holder of eight world titles, Geet was in full form right from the beginning and did not allow the Ireland cueist to recover and went on scoring with the highest break being 885 at the 14th visit.

Other breaks were 7/87, 9/425, 34/88 unfinished.

Geet had lost to 23-year-old Pankaj 1-6 in the finals of the 'Points Format' yesterday. But today he opened his campaign towards the ninth world title on a winning note.

Peter Ghilchrist of Singapore, the semifinalist in the 'Points Format', trounced Raghoo Sinha of India 1834-368 with breaks at 70, 148, 222, 88, 64, 105, 71, 74, 400, 62, 105.

Dronacharya Awardee Arvind Savur opened his account on a winning note in the league defeating Wayne Carey of New Zealand 823-623 with a break at 126.

Altogether 32 players were divided into eight groups with defending champion Pankaj placed in Group 'A'.
