Mysore, Sep 5 (UNI) Scion of Mysore Royal family and senior Congress leader Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar has favoured privatising of temples in Karnataka.
Speaking to mediapersons at Rajendra Vilas Palace, atop the Chamundi hills near here yesterday, he said except regulating the temples, the State Government has nothing to do with it.
Stating that he had already filed a case in the court in connection with the handing over of the Sri Chamundeswari temple management to him eight years ago, he said there was nothing wrong in asking for managing the temples since for so many years various people had maintained them.
Even the Mutts continued the tradition of maintaining the temples in the state, he pointed out.
He said he had already made a statement on the temples issue and would abide by it.
Mr Wadiyar suggested that the elephant Balarama, on which the huge 750-kg 'golden howdah' is mounted, should not be made to wait for long hours till the entire Dasara procession flagged off by Chief Minister moves out of the palace premises.
'It is too long for the tusker carrying the golden howdah to wait for hours. The pooja rituals must be performed last,'' he added.
