Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Spokesperson of the Coordination Committee (CC), spearheading the agitation in Kashmir, Masrat Alam was finally arrested by police in the city, official sources said today.
He was arrested by the police when he was travelling in a an autorickshaw on Srinagar-Airport road yesterday, sources said.
Alam, a senior leader of breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC), had been evading arrest since he went underground on August 24, when chairmen of both the factions of HC, JKLF chief and more than 100 second rank and other separatists were arrested following CC call for Lal Chowk chalo on August 25.
Earlier, police and security forces had raided a number of possible hideouts of Alam but could not arrest him, sources added.
His arrest came shortly after HC chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani threatened the authorities to release all the detenues within one month or face massive agitation.
