Mumbai advances in Buchi Babu Tourney

Chennai, Sep 5 (UNI) Defending champions Mumbai defeated Tripura by eight wickets and gained four points on the first day of the second-round Buchi Babu Memorial Cricket Tournament at the M A Chidambaram stadium here today.

Tripura was in dire-straits right from the word go as they could not withstand the fiery spell of Harmeet Singh, who scalped five wickets for a mere 33 runs, after Mumbai elected to field first.

Tripura were losing their wickets at regular intervals and except for Rajib Datta, who resisted the torrid pounding from Harmeet and scored a half-century in 146 balls, studded with seven fours and one six and Rajib Saha with his painstaking 44, studded with six boundaries in 134 balls, others caved in meekly.

They were all out for 156 in 62 overs.

Mumbai took only 29.2 overs to reach the target. Vinayak Mane, who cut loose remained unbeaten with 59, studded with eight fours in 92 deliveries. Abhishek Nayyar scored a hurricane 69 in 52 balls with six boundaries and three sixes. The partnership between the two yielded 119 runs in 20.2 overs for the second wicket.
