Madhur Bhandarkar to donate prize money to widows of farmers
Nagpur, Sep 5 (UNI) Noted film director Madhur Bhandarkar has decided to give the entire prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh, that he received with the National Award for Best Director, to the widows of three debt-ridden farmers of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
Mr Bhandarkar will hand over the cheques to the three widows here tomorrow, Umakant Agnihotri, head of the local centre of Avalon Aviation Academy, who is the organiser of the programme, told UNI.
The amount is to be distributed equally among Ms Kamal Kashinath Waghmare of Buldhana, Ms Sangita Prakash Darane and Ms Sugandha Shyam Kannake, both of Yavatmal, Mr Agnihotri said.
''The prize money is from the third consecutive award for Best Director that Mr Bhandarkar won in 2007-2008 for his film 'Traffic Signal,'' he added.
