Chandigarh, Sep 5 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the Centre's decision to lift ban on export of PUSA 1121 variety of rice would immensely benefit the farmers.
The Chief Minister stated this while addressing a gathering of farmers who had come to his residence from various parts of Haryana and neighbouring Punjab to express their gratitude to him for the efforts he had made to get the ban lifted on the export of this variety of paddy.
The farmers were so happy with the decision of the Central Government that a few of them had named PUSA 1121 as "Hooda Brand" and had brought a bag of this "branded" paddy at the thanks giving meeting.
Mr Hooda said he was grateful to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Union Commerce and Industries Minister Kamal Nath and Mr Pranab Mukherjee, Chairman of the sub committee to deal with this issue of PUSA 1121 for lifting ban on its export.
He said he had made it clear to these leaders that in case the ban wasnot lifted, the farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh would be adversely affected.
