Ranchi, Sep 5 (UNI) After proving his mettle with the bat, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has enrolled himself at St Xaviers college to pursue his Bachelors' Degree in Commerce.

Dhoni took admission in the college yesterday. Though, the Indian captain was not present personally but his sister and brother-in-law, Gautam, completed the admission formalities.

He took the admission in office management and secretarial practice, part of the Bachelors in Commerce course, officials in St Xaviers college told mediapersons.

The officials also imformed that Dhoni, who was awarded nation's highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award on August 29, has sought permission to be exempted from attending classes.

''The college management will decide about exempting Dhoni from attending classes,'' an official said.

However, students and teachers are excited about having the star cricketer in their college.

''It is indeed a great moment for us. We can meet and talk to Dhoni in the college. Dhoni, who is inaccessible to people, will now visit the college,'' a first year student quipped.

''We are feeling proud to be a batch mate of Dhoni. We are feeling elated as our college will be recognised at national and international level,'' another student said.

Dhoni had also met the college Principal Nicloas Tete when he visited the his hometown last, expressing his desire to take admission in the graduation course.

Tete, who was glad to know this, had accepted the request and agreed to grant admission in sports quota.

Elated about the ODI captain choosing to take admission in the college, Walter Vengra, Head of Department of Journalism said, ''It is big gift for us on Teachers' Day. We thank Dhoni for selecting our college to pursue graduation.'' UNI XC PY RAR UCS2003
