Puducherry, Sep 5 (UNI) AIADMK state secretary and MLA A Anbazhagan today criticised Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning V Narayansamy for his appeal to Congress party caders to make Puducherry, an "opposition party." Addressing a press conference here, he said it had become a practice for Mr Narayansamy to criticise opposition parties whenever he gets a temperory "promotion.' In a democracy, the ruling party and the opposition function jointly and the statement of Mr Narayansamy to treat the opposition as "enemy party" would lead to violence here, he feared.

He said PCC president A V Subramanian's statement also created an apprehension that the opposition parties had got something special from the previous government.

After the completion of the first year in office and during the second tenure of Mr Rangasamy, the AIADMK had demanded its dismissal, he said adding that the present government headed by V Vaithilingam was also a "non-functioning" one with the portfolios of the ministers could not be identified even after two days of swearing-in.

It was highly ridiculous that all the six ministers had signed the file yesterday, announcing a subsidy of Rs 30 for LPG cylinders.

Charging the Congress Government with 'cheating' the people, the AIADMK leader said it was yet to provide houses for the tsunami-hit people or funds for the construction of houses for them.

He said Mr Subramnian, who hails from a fishermen family should make his stand in the issue clear.

Pointing out that Mr Subramanian had exhorted the caders to set right the development of the Congress in 20 constituencies which was affected, Mr Anbazhagan said these constituencies, includes DMK also. The DMK should make it clear whether the party accepts the appeal of Mr Subramanian, he said adding that the functioning of the DMK as a wing of the Congress party in the Union Territory had forced him to make such a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here, state BJP president M Visweswaran demanded that the DMK, which was providing unconditional support to the government should quit the main opposition party status in the Territorial Assembly.

The leader of the opposition Mr Nazeem should resign, failing which the Lt Governor should intervene to set things right, he added.
