18 Bangladeshis detained in Meghalaya
Shillong, Sep 5 (UNI) Altogether 18 suspected Bangladeshi immigrants were detained in Meghalaya with doubtful documents, police said today.
The 'immigrants' were detected by members of the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People's (FKJGP) yesterday from a bus at Mawsynram village which they boarded from Shillong to Balat area, bordering Bangladesh.
''They were found to have entered Meghalaya with doubtful documents from various parts of Assam and later handed over to Mawsynram police,'' general secretary of FKJGP's Mawsynram Unit S Banshai Marbaniang said.
Meanwhile, the state police have interrogated the suspected immigrants.
