Bhubaneswar,Sep 4 (UNI) Over a dozen tribal women were injured, some of them hospitalised, when police resorted to lathicharge to prevent an irate mob who forcefully tried to enter a relief camp at Tikabali in the trouble torn Kandhmal district today.

Soon after the incident, the authority reimposed curfew in Tikabali while prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC remained in force in other parts of the district.

Police said hundreds of women armed with bows, arrows and lathis gheraoed Orissa Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal who visited the area to supervise the relief operation in the camps.

The women were demanding relief on the ground that they were unable to eke out their day to day living due to the tense situation prevailing in the area and the imposition of prohibitory orders.

When the District Magistrate arrived at the spot, they also gheraoed him and demanded relief.

Suddenly the armed women rushed to a nearby relief camp and tried to force their entry into the camp.Sensing trouble ahead, the police force present at the spot chased the women and resorted to mild lathi charge.

The women retaliated and pelted stone heavily at the force in which some police men were injured. The tribal women alleged that Christians have set fire to their own homes to get the benefit of relief and free food supplied by the government.
