Naxals target IG's convoy
Raipur, Sep 4 (UNI) Three police personnel were martyred and as many severely injured in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district today when naxals targeted the convoy of an Inspector-General of Police and triggered a landmine.
Police told UNI that Surguja's IG B S Marawi was en route to inspect a spot near the Jharkhand border, where a surrendered rebel was killed yesterday, when his convoy's scout vehicle was blown up between Chunchuna and Pudara this afternoon.
The ultras opened fire on the police team and the personnel retaliated. An additional force was rushed from Surguja. The encounter was still progressing when last reports came in. It was unclear whether the martyrs were of the state police or central personnel.
Chhattisgarh Police spokesman Rajkumar Devangan confirmed the incident but said that further details would be available after senior officers returned from the spot.
