Haryana implements Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme
Chandigarh, Sep 4 (UNI) The Haryana Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department has implemented Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme under which the Centre provides 100 per cent financial assistance as a grant to construct hostels for girls in universities, colleges and schools being run by government.
Haryana Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Kartar Devi today said, in case of voluntary organisations, the Centre would provide 90 per cent financial assistance as grant for expansion of hostels meant for girls belonging to Scheduled Castes.
The remaining 10 per cent expenditure would have to be borne by the voluntary organisations.
She pointed out that under the scheme, financial assistance would also be provided to voluntary organisations for expansion of hotels for boys belonging to Scheduled Castes.
In this case, the Central Government would provide 45 per cent financial assistance as grant and equal percentage would be provided by the state government. The remaining 10 per cent would be borne by the voluntary organisation.
Ms Kartar Devi said grant would also be given to government run colleges and schools for construction of hostels for boys belonging to Scheduled Castes. In the case the share of financial assistance will be 50 per cent each by the central and the state government.
For construction of a new hostel for boys belonging to Scheduled Castes, the Centre and the state government would provide 45 per cent financial assistance each as grant to universities.
The university would have to bear the remaining 10 per cent expenditure.
