Chennai, Sep 4 (UNI) Bomb scare that turned out to be a hoax led to the closure of five suburban schools, including three government and a few others in Chennai city today.
According to the police, the scare first emanated in a private Matriculation school in Chrompet suburb, when at around 0630 hrs Holy Queen Matriculation school received an anonymous phone call that a bomb had been planted in the premises and would go off any time.
Following this, the authorities took the children who had already reached the school out of the premises and stopped those who were coming in. They informed the police who after a check announced on the public address system that there was no truth in the claim.
Meanwhile, as the word spread, many panicking parents of children studying in five other schools in nearby Pallavaram and Anakapathur suburbs rushed there and demanded that the authorities send their children home and declare a holiday.
