Puducherry, Sep 4: AICC General Secretary Arun Kumar on Thursday, Sep 4 called upon the new ministry in Puducherry headed by V Vaithilingam to maintain good contacts with Congress cadres.
Addressing a gathering at the PCC office here, he congratulated Mr Vaithilingam and his council of ministers on behalf of the AICC, and said at least one minister should visit the Congress party office every Sunday so that the workers need not go to the secretariat and other places to redress their grievances.
Every Congress cadres should feel that this is his government. Similarly, the government should work for the upliftment of the poor. Unless this was done, it would be difficult to send Party president Sonia Gandhi's messages to the people, he added. He said AICC has a dream about Puducherry, which was developing fast. ''We expect the new Chief Minister and his council of ministers to work hard for making Puducherry, an ideal state,'' he said.
Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said Mr Vaithilingam and his cabinet colleagues should take a pledge to strengthen the Congress in the Union Territory.
The schemes of the new government should be such that it benefitted all sections of the society he said, adding that the election manifesto of the party should be implemented in full in order to obtain the faith of the people.
The government should ensure that many more industrial units were started in Puducherry, besides devoloping tourism and setting up of Special Economic Zone to provide employment opportunity to the local youths.
PCC president A V Subramanian said party cadres should ensure development of the Congress, which was affected in 20 constituencies in the past.
