SC notices to Gujarat govt on fake encounter plea by Javed Akhtar
New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the state of Gujarat on a petition filed by eminent lyricist Javed Akhtar seeking a CBI inquiry in all the fake encounters allegedly carried out by the Gujarat Police between 2002 and 2007.
Counsel for the petitioner today contended before a bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Aftab Alam that the Narendra Modi government in the state Assembly has admitted 21 fake encounters in Gujarat.
The petitioner is also seeking a CBI inquiry into the alleged killing of one Sameer Khan in a fake encounter by the Gujarat Police.
The apex court adjourned the hearing till the second week of November.
