Ranchi, Sep 3 (UNI) Former chief minister Madhu Koda, who has been appointed chairman of the Jharkhand UPA steering committee, has demanded ''statutory status'' for the body.
Mr Koda today told reporters here that he had made a request to Chief Minister Shibu Soren to notify the steering committee as a statutory body and accord ''cabinet rank'' to the chairman's post he was holding.
Mr Koda, who resigned from the post of chief minister last month paving way for Mr Soren, said 'Guruji' (Soren) had assured him to issue a notification in this regard soon.
Mr Soren, who was the chairman of the UPA steering committee till his elevation as chief minister, was, however, enjoying cabinet status.
Mr Koda said the committee should be entitiled to be privy to policy decisions, adding how many members would be included in the committee was yet to be finalised.
