HP Assembly demands increase in PDS quota

Shimla, Sep 3 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Assembly today unanimously adopted a motion demanding increase in PDS quota to the state by the Centre.

Chief Minster Prem Kumar Dhumal, who moved the motion, demanded the restoration of old quota of the rice to Himachal Pradesh.

He said State Government was keen that three major demands concerning the state, were accepted by the Centre. These were releasing of assitance of Rs 1000 crore for rain relief, restoration of PDS quota and increasing of industrial package.

Mr Dhumal said rice quota under PDS system had been reduced for above poverty line (APL) families from 20 kg to 10 kg to each family per month due to reduction in the state rice quota by the UPA government.

He said state rice quota for each month had been reduced to 7118 metric tonnes and demanded increase in the quota by 18600 meteric tonnes.

The Chief Minister said Soyabean Refined Oil quota per month per family should also be raised from one litre to two litres.

Civil and Supply Minister Ramesh Dhawala who spoke on the motion, thanked the Chief Minister for keeping the provision of 90 crore subsidy for the PDS in the state.

Later the House adopted the motion by a voice vote.
