Islamabad, Sep 3 (UNI) Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's vehicle was partially damaged when two bullets struck its window glass today, but officials said Mr Gilani was not in the car at that time.

The car was on its way to the airport to pick up Mr Gilani when the incident took place.

However, a statement by Prime Minister's House said, ''Unknown assailants attacked the motorcade of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on the Islamabad Highway this afternoon.'' It added that ''of the multiple sniper shots fired on the Prime Minister's vehicle, two hit the window on the driver side.'' Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik has ordered an enquiry of the incident and its report would be submitted within 24 hours.

Federal Minister for Information Sherry Rehman told reporters that Prime Minister Gilani was completely safe and was busy in his regular work.

Mr Gilani was returning to Islamabad after completing his visit to Lahore when his motorcade was attacked at a place near the airport.

Security of the prime minister has been put on high alert after the incident.
