Two arrested for running cow slaughter factory
Phagwara, Sep 2 (UNI) The Punjab Police has unearthed a cow slaughter factory being illegaly run in the premises of a closed milk processing unit in village Rurrka Khurd near Goraya in Phillaur Sub Division yesterday.
The police also arrested the managing director of the factory, Gurpreet Singh Chatha and manager Gurwinder Singh and registered a case under section 420/295-120B of the IPC and Cow Slaughtering Act.
Both the accused were running the factory on the name of Chatha Foods Pvt Ltd for the last three months.
Phillaur DSP Rajinder Singh Sohal said that more than 14 tonnes of raw meat had been seized from the factory. "The samples of the meat would be sent to a Hyderabad Laboratory to verify whether it was cow or buffalo meat," he said.
"The firm was purchasing beef from Barabanki in Uttar Pardesh and after its processing used to export them to Jorden," he said.
Meanwhile, several Hindu organisations, including Shiv Sena Bal Thackrey, Dharam Jagran Manch held a demonstration before the factory and demanded high level inquiry into the matter.
