Security bolstered in Goa ahead of 10-day Ganeshotsav festival
Panaji, Sep 2 (UNI) Security has been stepped up in Goa to ensure that the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, commencing tomorrow, passes off without incident across the state.
Police have deployed two companies of Central paramilitary forces in the Salcete region of South Goa as a precautionary measure.
Patrolling has been intensified and a close vigil is being kept at vulnerable areas and all market places.
Governor S S Sidhu and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, meanwhile, today extended warm greetings to the people of Goa on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
''The festival of Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles, should be celebrated with a greater sense of solidarity and mutual understanding among all sections of society, so as to protect and preserve the oneness of our Motherland,'' the Governor said in his message.
''May the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi herald greater peace, joy and prosperity for the people of this State,'' he added.
The chief minister has also conveyed his greetings and prayers for peace and prosperity of the state.
