SBI starts online collection of motor vehicle tax
Kolkata, Sep 2 (UNI) SBI has introduced a service collection of motor vehicle tax through computer link at six specified branches in the city with effect from September 1.
This arrangement was made after an agreement reached between the SBI and West Bengal Motors Vehicle Department to collect taxes from four-wheel owners, registered with Public Vehicle Department, an SBI release today said.
The online collection of tax to SBI's braches are Dalhousie Square, Bhowanipur, Ballygunge, Shyam Bazar, Manicktala and Sales Tax Building (Munshibazar).
The online collection of motor vehicle tax through bank branches is first of its kind in India, which was inaugurated by West Bengal Transport Minister Subash Chakraborty at Dalhousie square branch.
The services will be extended to some more branches in the city and few districts in West Bengal.
The SBI had earlier introduced online collection of commecial taxes of the state government. Sales tax, VAT, professional tax through SBI internet system and other initiatives are being taken to extend citizen-centric services to the public through cyber treasury.
