Mumbai, Sep 2: D Subba Rao, the new Governor of Reserve Bank of India has the twin challenge of containing inflation and at the same time, maintain the momentum of growth, ICICI Bank Joint Managing Director Chanda Kochar said on Tuesday, Sep 2.
Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of a book release function here, she expressed confidence in Mr Rao acting in the new role as he had already experience in the fiscal side. The regulator's immediate challenge would be how to manage the inflationary trends and maintain growth, she added. Asked about the movement of inflation, Ms Kochar said it depended on several factors including prices of commodities and liquidity position in the system.
To another question, she said ''I don't think interest rates will ease very soon.''
