Nalco donates Rs 4 crore for Bihar flood victims
Bhubaneswar,Sep 2 (UNI) National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU has contributed Rs 4 crore to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, for providing relief to the flood victims of Bihar as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).
At present around 30 lakh people in 16 districts of Bihar are in the grip of floods. Most of them belonged to worst affected Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura and Araria districts.
A company release said the company had contributed Rs 1.7 crore to the PM's National Relief Fund during Gujarat earthquake in 2001, Rs 2.44 crore during Tsunami and Rs 2.98 crore during J &K earthquake (both in 2005).
NALCO had also contributed Rs 1.18 crore to National Defence Fund during Kargil War and Rs 1.39 crore during Super Cyclone in Orissa (both in 1999). Besides, soon after the Super Cyclone, NALCO constructed 197 Primary School-cum-Cyclone Shelters, under PM's National Relief Fund Scheme, in the coastal districts of Orissa at a cost of Rs 7.68 crore.
