Jamshedpur, Sep 2 (UNI) Jharkhand Olympics Association has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe into the violence at the 20th National Junior Inter-Zonal athletics championship in which six sports officials and a policeman were wounded.
The violence occurred yesterday when a sports official and deputy superintendent of police and his supporters attacked the JRD sports complex here.
JOA secretary general S M Hashmi told newspersons that the committee led by associate vice-president Anil Kumar Jaiswal would place its investigation report at the high level meeting of the JOA in Ranchi tomorrow.
''We have already condemned the incident and will recommend strongest possible punishment against whoevere found guilty. It is quite unfortunate that a senior police official who had a long association with sports is said to be involved in this indecent incident, '' he added.
The inquiry committee will also probe whether the miscreants opened fire or not.
Bihar Athletics Association's former secretary and DSP of Jharkhand Armed police Arif Imam, his son and their followers attacked the venue and damaged the car of JAA Budhwa Oraon. Imam and his son were later arrested.
JAA president Madhukant Pathak alleged that Imam, his son and more than 50 people armed with dagger, swords and other lethal weapons stromed into the venue and attacked the sports officials.
Barring some sports officials, no participant was injured in the incident.
Mr Pathak had also filed a case against Mr Imam for allegedly manhandling him two days back.
The rivalry of sports association was said to be the reason behind the incident.
