Jaya's acuittal claim wrong: TANSI case is proof enough: CM
Chennai, Sep 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today hit back at opposition AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa for her remarks that her acquittal in various corruption cases showed that they were foisted against her by the previous DMK government.
Answering a set of questions, he said Ms Jayalalithaa's conviction in the TANSI land deal case alone was enough to disprove her charge.
The Supreme court, while convicting her in the case, had indicted Ms Jayalalithaa for having purchased government land and had directed her to return the land, back to state owned TANSI.
''Did she not return the land to TANSI as directed by the apex court'', Mr Karunanidhi asked and pointed out that the Supreme court had also condemned her attitude.
On PMK leader Dr S Ramadoss expressing apprehensions over the government's move to bring amendments to the land ceiling act, Mr Karunanidhi said it was the DMK government, which had successfully implemented the land ceiling Act in the country.
After fixing the land ceiling at 15 standard acres in 1970, the DMK government took over 1,78,880 acres of excess land and were distributed to 1,37,236 eligible farmers, who included 61,985 scheduled castes, he said.
The government had never helped the rich or gave them concession while implementing the land ceiling act and it had no such intension in future also.
