Gujarat, Kerala win easily: wrap up matches on day one

Chennai, Sept 2 (UNI) Gujarat notched up their first win in Group '' D '' defeating Vidarbha by six wickets, while Kerala thrashed Tripura by seven wickets in Group ''A' with a day to spare in the All India Buchi Babu cricket tournament here today.

Both Vidarbha and Kerala got four points each for the win.

Since the two-day contest was restricted to 90 overs a side, Vidarbha put into bat, folded up for 129 runs in 49.1 overs. Only Faiz Fazal ploughed a lone furrow with a polished half century (59).

Gujarat's Sahil Patel and Amit Singh claimed four and three wickets, respectively.

Gujarat knocked off the runs scoring 130 for four in 41.3 overs with Gigang Bopat remaining unbeaten on 47 to win with a day to spare.

Ar TI Cycles ground, Tripura, put in, were all out for 136 and Kerala surpassed it losing three wickets. At one stage Kerala were 37 for three, but the fourth wicket pair of V A Jagadeesh (55 not out) and Rohan Prem (47 not out) ensured that there were no further damage by adding 103 runs in 28.5 overs to hasten the win.

In other matches, centuries by Ravi Teja and Robin Bisht helped Hyderabad and Rajasthan score healthy totals, while leg spinner M Suresh claimed eight wickets for Andhra.

Teja's 151 (18x4, 3x6) and his 114-run sixth wicket stand with Bharat Kumar Verma (49) was the cornerstone of Hyderabad's 313 all out against Baroda.

In another match, all the top order batsmen came good as Rajasthan amassed 377 for six in 90 overs. Bisht top scored with 101 (106 balls, 11x4, 1x6), while Subanshu Vijay (86), Nikhil Doru (54), skipper Y Venugopala Rao (69) and Rohit Jalani (45 not out) chipped in with useful scores against Assam.

At CPT-IP grounds Suresh spun a web around Combined Districts batsmen to claim eight for 40 to restrict their rivals to 175 in 64.5 overs.

In reply Andhra made 59 for one in 25 overs and required another 117 runs on the final day tomorrow for victory.
