Four new power projects to add 8700 MW in AP

Hyderabad, Sep 2 (UNI) To augment power supply by 8700 MW four new mega power projects will come up in Andhra Pradeshat a cost of Rs 33,990 crore, Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabeer informed the State Assembly today.

Replying to a question by Congress member D Manikya Varaprasada Rao, the Minister said a 1600 MW Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Project at a cost of Rs 8,432 crore would be taken up at Krishnapatnam in Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district by the State Generation Corporation(GENCO).

He said a 4000 MW ultra Mega power project costing Rs 15,000 crore would be taken up with Reliance power company in Krishnapatnam in which State's power share would be 1600 MW.

The GENCO would also take up 2100 MW Combined Cycle Gas power plant in Karimnagar district at a cost of Rs 5,520 crore, he said.

Another 1000 MW would be added to the state grid with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) taking up the expansion project of the Simhadiri Power project in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 5,038 crore, he added.
