England eves demolish India by 10 wickets

By Staff

Taunton, Sep 2 (UNI) Led by inspiring bowling spells from Katherine Brunt and Holly Colvin, India was handed a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England as the visitors failed to pose any challenge to give their counterparts a 2-0 lead in the five match ODI series here.

After electing to bat first, the Indians never looked comfortable as they failed to negotiate England's opening bowlers and finished 102 all out in the 46th over yesterday.

The visitors were immediately reduced to 11 for four in 13 overs and had it not been captain Mithali Raj's unfinished innings of 53 (100 balls), the day could have been even more embarrassing for them.

For England, opening bowler Brunt finished with figures of 14 for three which included five maiden overs, while Colvin claimed four wickets as the two did not let Indians a chance to make a come back into the match.

Apart from Mithali, who held one end only to see her teammates to follow one after the other, only Asha Rawat (11) could reach the double figures while the Indians failed to halt England's opening pair when they came to chase the required target.

Needing just 103 to win, Sarah Taylor made the work light for the hosts as she raced to 75 off 77 balls (1X6,7X4) along with Caroline Atkins (24) as the Indian bowling looked spineless against their prowess and finished the match with more than 25 overs to spare.

The Indians, already trailing the series by two games, will have pull up their socks to survive against a strong England team which definitely would look for a series whitewash as the two teams take on each other on September 4.

Brief scores: India: 102 all out in Mithali Raj 53 not out, Brunt 3-14, Colvin 4-20.

England: 103 for 0, Taylor 75 not out, Atkins 24 not out.
