TN: BKS plea to CM on power for farm operations
Tiruchirapalli, Sep 2: The Bharatiya Kissan Sangh (BKS) here has appaled to the Tamil Nadu Government to ensure 14 hours of uninterrupted power supply for farming operations.
In his memorandum to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy, a copy of which was made available to press here today, BKS Secretary Ayyakannu said farmers were already suffering for one reason or another.
The non-availability of power was only adding to their woes as crops had started withering for lack of water. They could lose at least Rs 7,000 per acre.
He suggested the government instruct industries to use generators and the electricity saved could be diverted for farming operations.
