20 students selected for exchange programme with Germany
Puducherry, Sep 2 (UNI) Twenty students of a Government Girls High School at Kalapet here have been selected under students exchange programme to visit Germany and interact with schoolchildren there.
Mr M O H F Shajahan, the education minister in the outgoing ministry, felicitated the students, who would fly to Germany on September five and said they should establish close rapport and propagate Indian culture among the children in Germany.
The students were selected after a Delhi-based non governmental organisation (NGO) donated Rs 45 lakh under tsunami rehabilitation programme for the programme.
An MoU was signed with the organisation in October last year. The NGO mobilised the fund, which included the contributions made by 3000 children of Germany for relief and rehabilitation of tsunami hit coastal people in Puducherry.
District collector Thevaneethidas, who is leading the team along with four teachers of the school, said the students would stay with different families in Germany and acquaint themselves with local culture, visit various heritage sites and present cultural programmes in some schools.
The team would return on September 15, he added.
