Bhopal, Sep 2: Eleven of the total 50 districts in Madhya Pradesh are affected by filaria with the affected total population estimated at more than 1.52 crore.
On the National Filaria Day on November 11, about one crore such patients would be made to consume 4.5 crore DEC tablets in the state, official sources said, adding a State Task Force had already been set up in this regard.
Children below 2 years, expectant mothers and persons affected by serious diseases should not consume the tablet, the sources added. More than 1.36 crore affected people were administered the medicine in 2007.
An action plan has been formulated for the implementation of national filaria programme in affected districts of Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Satna, Panna, Datia, Katni, Damoh, Chhindwara, Rewa, Umaria and Sagar.
As many as 2941 cases of filaria were reported in the 11 districts, while 803 hydrosil operations were also performed in the state, the sources added.
