Top Indian pros to compete at PGTI Players Champ starting tommorrow

Pune, Sep 1 (UNI) With top Indian pros vying for top honours at the Pune Golf Club's challenging course, the PGTI Players Championship will be kicked off here tomorrow.

Organised by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the four-day tournament will witness top names in Indian professional golf battle for top honours at the Poona Golf Club's challenging course, which includes Mukesh Kumar, Rahul Ganapathy, Harendra Gupta, Harmeet Kahlon, Shamim Khan, Vijay Kumar and local favourites Jaideep Patwardhan, Neil Mundra and Rajiv Datar, to name a few.

The tourney, which carry a total prize purse of Rs 30 lakh, is supported by the Poona Golf Club and TaylorMade.

Manish Jaitha, Golf Captain, Poona Golf Club, said, ''The Poona Club is hosting a professional golf tournament after a gap of over two years and we are really looking forward to the event. The Greens Committee is all set to give a challenging course to the players.'' Echoing the same view, Ajai Gupta, Tour Commissioner, PGTI, added, ''The PGTI Players Championship at the Poona Golf Club is another milestone achieved by the PGTI as it marks our debut in Pune, a city which is currently one of the major golfing centres in India.'' ''The magnificent championship course at the Poona Golf Club provides the perfect setting for an exciting clash between the country's top professionals,'' Gupta noted.

This tournament is the western leg of the PGTI Players Championships 2008. The northern, eastern and southern legs of the Championships were successfully held earlier this year in Chandigarh, Kolkata and Coimbatore respectively.
