Rains claim 74 lives since south west monsoon
Bangalore, Sep 1: Seventy four people were killed and about one lakh acres of agricultural land damaged due to incessant rains and floods in Karnataka since the onset of south west monsoon, Karnataka Revenue minister G Karunakara Reddy said here on Monday, Sep 1.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the state government has issued instructions to all Deputy Commisisoners to prepare and send a comprehensive report on the damage caused by floods.
He said according to an initial report as many as 74 people were killed, 312 cattle heads perished and over 8,100 dwelling houses had been damaged, 138 of them totally. Cultivable land of more than 93,000 acres was washed away in the floods.
The districts affected badly due to floods include Mysore, Kodagu, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Daxina Kannada, Chickmagalur, Haveri, Bellary, Davanagere, Dharwad, Hassan and Udupi.
