Hyderabad, Sep 1 (UNI) The city police had busted an inter-state kidney racket by apprehending five kidney brokers, who were dealing in human kidney transplantation for commercial purposes.
A release said here today the accused were arrested and 108 fake rubber stamps of different Government Departments, fake documents, three cell-phones and one hard-disk were seized from their possession.
They were identified as Dasari Surdershan Yadav, Athkuri Srinivasu, Bellina Sai Kumar, Eppa Jayaram Reddy and Turaka Pichaiah.
The modus operandi of the accused was that the brokers established contact with the patients or their attendants in corporate hospitals, who were in desperate need of kidney transplantation. After ascertaining the patient's blood group, they would search for poor people of the same blood and lure them for kidney donation. They would then arrange a meeting between the patient and donor, where the price would be fixed.
The amount given to the donor ranged from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakhs with the broker commission ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh, depending upon the type of service rendered. In some cases, the broker would merely introduce the donor to the patient, while in other cases, the broker would do the documentation work for both the patient and donor with additional charges for commission, the release added.
