Kanpur, Sep 1 (UNI) Former union minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi today criticised the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre for its wrong policies that caused delay in resolving the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board land row in Jammu.

''If the Centre would have made a timely decision and contributed in reaching into an agreement over the Shrine Board land matter, a great violence that led to both loss of lives and money could have been avoided,'' Mr Joshi charged, while being on a day's visit here.

He alleged that the UPA government was involved in vote bank politics on the land issue, which caused the delay.

The national tri-colour was being openly destroyed and Pakistani national flag was hoisted in Jammu and Kashmir, which was a serious matter as there was no incident of hosting of Pakistani flag in the valley since 1992, the BJP leader noted .

Condemning the violence in Orissa, Mr Joshi said there should be a CBI probe on change of religion for greed and poverty in the country.

He further strongly condemned the statement of Pope Benedict XVI, in which he said Christianity would be spread throughout Asia by 21st century.
