Siddharthnagar, Aug 31 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has now arrested a canteen worker for interrogation into the multi-crores fake currency racket unearthed at the SBI Dumariyaganj chest here recently.
Ramesh, who worked at the canteen of the SBI's said branch, was held late last night over his closeness with suspended cashier and prime accused Sudhakar Tripathi, sources said today.
The SIT has brought Ramesh to Lucknow for interrogation, while it continued with its investigation with the bank employees and the customers, they added.
Sudhakar and his co-accused Abid were presently behind the bars and booked under the Gangster Act and the National Security Act (NSA).
Over Rs four crore have been detected fake at the SBI Dumariyaganj chest, while Rs 70 lakh were found missing.
On August 4, a team of senior RBI officials reached the bank and seized counterfeit Indian currency worth Rs 20 lakh from the branch's main chest in Siddharthnagar district.
On August 7, the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered probe by a SIT into the multi-crore rupees fake currency racket. Realising the seriousness of the case, the very next day, the government had recommended investigation by the CBI.
