Tiruchirapalli, Aug 31 (UNI) Seven people were killed and 56 others injured in six different road accidents in Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai and Ariyalur districts of Tamil Nadu yesterday.
Police said three people, including a 25-year-old woman, were killed when they were run over by a speedy State Transport Corporation bus at Vaiyampatti on the Tiruchirapalli-Dindigul National Highway, near here.
Police said Divyanathan and his daughter Helan were proceeding to Vaiyampatti in a two wheeler. Their two-wheeler collided with another two-wheeler, which was ridden by Jose Prakash (25), and all of them fell on the road. They were run over by the speedy bus on the spot, which was coming from Palani to Pattukkottai.
Later, bus driver Thiyagarajan surrdered before the Manaparai police station.
In another incident, a cyclist was hit and run over by a car at suburb Ariyamangalam. The victim was identified as Soundirapandiyan (38).
In another accident, an unidentifed man was killed on the spot when a mini-van hit him at Palpannai Roundana, near Ariyamangalam area.
In another incident, three women were injured when a tipper lorry rammed into the rear side of a State Transport Corporation city bus, in which they were travelling, at Pettavaithalai near here.
The injured were admitted to the Government Head Quarters Hospital here, police said.
Police said two farm labourers were also killed on the spot, when a two-wheler, in which they were riding collided with a bus at Karapathanpatti village in Pudukkottai district.
The deceased were identified as Srinivasan (22) and Selvakumar (21), police added.
In another accident, as many as 53 school children were injured when a school bus in which they were travelling hit against a road side tree at Marudyankovil in Ariyalur district.
The injured were admitted to the Government Hospital, Ariyalur, and the Government Medical College Hospital at Thanjavur, police added.
