UGC team assesses 11th plan requirements of varsity
Tiruchirpalli, Aug 30 (UNI) A six-member UGC Expert Committee concluded its three-day visit to the Bharathidasan University yesterday to assess its requirements for the 11th Plan period and its utilisation of grants provided under the 10th Plan.
According to a university release here today, they assessed the Science, Arts and Humanities Departments separately. The team visited the common facilities, including the Centre for Distance Education, Institute for Entrepreneurship and Career Development, Bharathidasan University Technology Park, Women's Training Centre, Biomedical Diagnostic Laboratory, Informatics Centre, Library, Hostels and the administrative building.
The Committee was impressed by the progress made and the university was reported to have projected its requirements in the range of Rs 45 crore to Rs 50 crore for the 11th plan period. The Committee recommendation on fund allotment would be known within a week.
The committee, with former Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor K Sidappa as the Convenor, comprised Prof Buddhadeb Manna, Zoology, University of Calcutta, K P Pandey, Former Vice-Chancellor, Vidyapeeth University in Varanasi, A K Singh, Director, Giri Instititute of Developmental Studies in Lucknow, R C Gupta, Professor in Zoology, Kurukshetra University and K Gunasekaran, Member Secretary and Director, Administration, UGC, New Delhi.
R Ramanarayanan, Member, Registrar, Tamil Nadu Physical and Sports University, Chennai, represented the Tamil Nadu Government.
