TN Cabinet approves industrial projects

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Cabinet today approved various industrial projects that are to come up at different parts of the state, with a total investment of about Rs 10,000 crore.

The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also approved incentives to be given to the Industries, in nine backward southern districts of the State, an official release here said.

Major industrial projects, for which the Cabinet had given its approval, included a Rs 4000 crore France-based Michalin Tyre factory to be established in Tiruvallur, Rs 2512 crore for Boiler factory in Tiruchirapalli, Rs 1500 crore for Oil and Rig unit in Kancheepuram, it said.

The Cabinet also approved a tax holiday scheme for industrial units to be set up in Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanniyakumari districts, it said.

It also took a decision on modifying the special package given to Ashok Leyland and Nissan coming up near here.

To help poor students, the Cabinet gave its nod for waiving of special fees for students, studying from six to 12th standards in Govenment and Government-aided schools.

The Cabinet decided to constitute an expert committee for implementing education for all. It gave the approval for amending the land ceiling act to enable industries, hospitals and educational institutions to own more than 15 acres of land.

The cabinet also decided to regularise construction of buildings of those who purchased housing sites under the urban land ceiling act, the release added.
