Sportspersons, film stars and public to run for noble cause

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) 'When we run, we help a child reach school', is the message that would be inspiring 5000 athletes spearheaded by Olympian and 10,000 m runner Surender Singh who would be spearheading the field for the 21.09 km as the stage is set for the GiveLife-Marg half marathon event to be held here tomorrow with a noble cause to raise funds to educate underprivileged children.

Five thousand athletes, including women had registered by late evening, including sporting celebrities like tennis ace Vijay Amritraj and hockey icons Dhanraj Pillai, Md Riaz and V Baskaran, besides India's squash stars Joshna Chinnappa and Deepika Pallikal.

A few other former and present sportspersons would also be in the line up alogn with some film stars.

The event is Being organised by an NGO GiveLife and cultural and social service organisation 'Tamilmayam' spearheaded by Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, the daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Besides the professional category, there would be The Great Chennai City Run and Master Run for above 50 year olds, both to a distance of 7 km. A special category of Wheel Chair Run for differently abled would also be conducted, organisers have already announced.

The professional runners as well as general public invited to encourage the competitors, could donate as per their wish and the proceeds would be utilised for the welfare of the underprivileged children being adopted by GiveLife NGO, especially education.

The event would be started off with the release of a hot air balloon by Ms Kanimozhi.
