Paes-Dlohuy, Bhupathi-Knowles advanced in US Open pre-quarters

New York, Aug 30 (UNI) Indian Davis Cuppers Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati along with their respective partners Lukas Dlouhy of Czech Republic and Mark Knowles of Bahamas entered into the pre-quarterfinals of men's doubles event of the US Open by winning their second round matches.

The fourth seeded Bhupathi-Mark Knowles pair piped Swiss Yves Allegro and Horia Tecau of Romania in straight sets 6-3 6-3 in a match which lasted little over one hour.

The Indo-Bahamas pair proved to be too strong for their opponents and did not face even a single breakpoint in the tie while breaking their rivals once in the first set and twice in the second to move into the pre-quaterfinals.

They will now face Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco in thier next round match.

However, the seventh seeded Paes and Lukas Dlouhy registerd a hard fought victory over thier opponent Eduardo Schwank of Argentina and Potito Starace of Italy.

Paes-Dlouhy pair defeated Schwank and Starace 6-4 1-6 6-3 in their second round match yesterday.

Paes and his Czech partner Dlouhy pocketed the first set in just 25 minutes, breaking their rivals once but Schwank-Starace fought back and clinched the second set to eualise the game.

The Indo-Czech pair got into their elements in the all important decisive third set, which they won after converting one of the two chances they got.

The Paes-Dlouhy now will face Rik De Voest of South Africa and Ashley Fisher of Australia in the pre-quaterfinals.
