Mohali, Aug 30 (UNI) Punjab police arrested a retired and re-employed DSP of Haryana police late last night in connection with smuggling of cocaine worth Rs 1.25 crore.

Gurdarshan Singh Sodhi, DSP (wireless) in telecommunications cell of Haryana Police Headquarter, Panchkula, was arrested on the basis of the statement of a former army personnel Dara Singh, who was nabbed yesterday here with 1.23 kg cocaine hidden under the seat of his car, said SSP, Mohali, J S Aulakh.

SSP Jatinder Singh Aulakh had caught Dara Singh at a check post laid at Landran-Sonaha road here. On a tip-off, Dara Singh's car was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of the contraband.

On interrogation, Dara Singh disclosed that the narcotic was supplied to him by Sodhi against the payment of Rs 20 lakh as security.

Following the disclosure, a police party rushed to Panchkula to nab Sodhi and also searched his house in Chandigarh. Police also claimed to have recovered two cheques paid by Dara Singh.

Mr Aulakh said that a case has been registered under NDPS Act and police hoped that the arrests would help bust a network of drug smugglers active for quite some time in the region.
