Centre sends additional assistance to flood-hit Bihar

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Centre today sent additional Army column and Medical teams, helicopters and boats to the flood-hit Bihar According to an official release, one Army column, three Army Medical teams, two helicopters and 84 boats were despatched for rescue operations in the state without any further delay.

Four Army columns, five helicopters and 118 boats were already working for the rescue operations.

Additional 1097 tents were despatched while the state government was requested to indicate their requirements of tarpaulin tents and GI sheets.

The National Crisis Management Committee, headed by the Cabinet Secretary today reviewed the flood situation in the state.

Relief Commissioners of adjoining states of West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand, on the advice of Ministry of Home Affairs, are providing relief materials like tents and boats, the release said.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued instructions to supply two crore Halogen tablets as per the schedule given by the Bihar government.

A high level team is constituted by Ministry of Water Resources to suggest remedial measures to the state government for repair and strengthening of afflux bunds of Kosi baarage which would also coordinate with Nepal for early repairs, the release added.

Six supervisory teams have been formed for day to day coordination between the state engineers, Ganga Flood Control Commission and Indian Embassy, Katmandu for smooth working at the breached section.
