Hubli, Aug 30 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted local committees on the model of School Development Committees throughout the state for management and maintenance of SC, ST and Backward Class hostels, Social Welfare Department Secretary Bharath Lal Meena said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the committees would ensure better facilities to students in the hostels.
Accepting that there had been inumerable complaints all over the state regarding the bad maintenance of the hostels, he said the committees, consisting of concerned hostel superintendents, parents, government officers, would be authorised purchase food materials and other items locally instead of purchasing them at the district level.
The government was planning to start 100 more hostels for the welfare of Backward class students, he added.
